Hope Island was named after the Honourable Louis Hope, a Captain who arrived in Moreton Bay in 1848.
Louis was a grazier, sugar planter and miller, who was granted 1800 acres near the Coomera River in recognition of his contribution in developing the sugar industry in Queensland.
He developed a sugar plantation called ‘Rockholm’ on the island which was later passed through generations of families.
Since then, Hope Island is now called home to almost 12,000 residents, a large portion of which reside in the Hope Island Resort, an upscale gated community. The community houses a stunning golf course, tennis courts, half sized Olympic pool, marina and is secured by around the clock security. The resort is still releasing land for those wanting a piece of the pie.
The resort even hosts its own private broadband network, a modern Hybrid Fibre Coax (HFC) network. This network allows for delivery of incredibly fast internet, television, security and the gate intercom.
Links Golf Course is a relatively young club but forms the centrepiece of Hope Island Resort and is a prestigious 18-hole championship course which consistently holds its place in Australia’s top 10 resort courses. The course opened in March 1993 after five-time British Open Champion, Peter Thomson, and partner, Mike Wolveridge designed the course.
The layout means even for the most avid golfer there must be careful strategic thinking when working around the natural and man-made hazards, 128 challenging pot style bunkers and 72 par course. There is also a driving range, putting and chipping green for those wanting to brush up on their skills first.
The course is also accompanied by a Mediterranean-style clubhouse, offering hard to come by course views, which can be enjoyed by relaxing in the bar, dining in the Links restaurant or holding a function in one of their private conference and event rooms.
The service is second to none.
