State of the art Cancer Centre helps change lives

In one way or another, sadly, all of us will be affected by cancer at some stage throughout our lives.

In Australia, it is estimated the risk of a person being diagnosed with cancer by their 85th birthday will be 1 in 2.*

These sobering statistics are the reason why the state of the art Nelune Comprehensive  Cancer Centre at the Prince of Wales Hospital was built. This Centre provides exceptional treatment and care for thousands of patients with cancer and blood disorders every year.

This amazing facility is a significant milestone in the history of the Prince of Wales Hospital, which took approximately four years to build, and provides up to 5,000 cancer treatments each year.

Associate Professor Michael Jackson, Director of Radiation Oncology at Prince of Wales Hospital says the state of the art facility will greatly improve the lives of those living and recovering from cancer.

“The radiotherapy bunkers each named and themed with murals reflecting local beach side scenery have been designed with patients in mind, in an effort to create a space that is both peaceful and calming. The ceilings above the linear accelerators in each of the bunkers are equipped with moving cloud scenery to give patients a sense of freedom from a clinical environment,” he said.

Your kind support of Mater Prize Home lottery has helped to fund this vital project which aims to reduce the impact of cancer on patients and strive for the best in patient care.
