Unexpected “holiday” in Sydney

For Queenslanders, Gordon and Ruth Duncan, their Lord Howe Island holiday came to an abrupt end at the departure lounge of the airport when Gordon suddenly became dizzy, unsteady and too sick to fly.

Gordon was admitted to the small but well-equipped local hospital and tests revealed an unexpected heart arrhythmia.  The doctor of the local hospital contacted Dr Cranney of Prince of Wales Hospital, Sydney regarding treatment. Soon after, Gordon was transferred to the Prince of Wales Hospital via Air Ambulance.

Less than a day after discharge, Gordon was safely back in Queensland. Without all the care given by the Air Ambulance and Ambulance Service paramedics and staff at the Prince of Wales Hospital, this transition to a new and healthier stage of life could have had a very different ending.

Christmas will mean so much more this year.
