For Keith, it was a waiting game that he knew was coming and the news of his diminishing kidney function came as no surprise. His family has been affected by hereditary polycystic kidney disease—his mother and brother had already faced the condition and its effects.
Throughout 2013 and 2014 Keith endured the gruelling process of dialysis.
“My kidneys reached their lowest function at one of the busiest points of my acting career,” Keith said. “I had a key role in a feature film and a country-wide theatrical tour. It was gruelling schedule and year, especially when dealing with failing kidneys and a dialysis schedule.”
Hope came through a friend who had seen what Keith was going through. Vince could see how the disease was affecting Keith and was willing to help any way he could. After a series of tests and matching checks it came as a huge relief when it was confirmed that a kidney donation and transplant could take place in December 2014. From that point Keith has not looked back.
“I am so grateful to be given this gift and to have benefited from the skilful team at the Prince of Wales Hospital who were able to get give me my life back,” said Keith.
