If you’ve got kids and wonder if Brisbane is for you; we are here to tell you, it is! The warmer climate means endless fresh-air fun for your family, and with so much on your doorstep from your new apartment, you’ll have a never-ending supply of events, endeavours and entertainment.
Why not use your new Milton apartment as a summer escape? Pack up the kids and head to Brisbane for a weekend to see what all the hype is about! Here are some family-fun activities for you to enjoy.
Travelling with kids
Finding something to keep the kids entertained can sometimes be a challenging feat, but not when you’re in Brisbane. With loads of family-fun activities on offer, you’ll find it hard to fit them all into your weekend. The Sunshine State gets its name thanks to the glorious weather afforded all year round. Bearing that in mind; why not get outdoors and explore!
PICK A PARKLAND
Brisbane, and its surrounds, is full of lush parklands to enjoy the tropical weather on offer. There are so many to choose from; and a lot can be accessed by simply jumping on the City Cat and cruising down the river.
Here are some of our favourites:
Roma Street Parklands
Roma Street Parklands is located only a few short steps from the city centre. With spectacular gardens, lush rainforests, lavish lakes and expansive lawns, these Parklands will keep your family entertained for hours. Take a picnic and pull up a rug, or bring along your barbecue packs as you will find several electric barbecue facilities available to use for free.
The Upper Parkland offers children two playgrounds to lose themselves in. On rubber flooring, the playgrounds provide the usual swings, slides and climbing structures, but also offers a herb and vegetable garden, water feature and a worm farm to tickle their inquisitive natures. And what child doesn’t love the chance to explore and swing from the massive fig trees throughout the park.
Take a train ride
With free guided and self-guided walks available, your kids won’t have a chance to be bored. Before you leave, be sure to take the kids on the trackless train that circles the park. For just a gold coin donation, a family fun activity couldn’t be any better value for money!

City Botanic Gardens
The City Botanic Gardens line the Brisbane CBD and is an exotic escape from the hustle of the city streets. Originally planted by convicts in 1825, these gardens are the oldest in Brisbane.
As you explore the gardens, you’ll find plenty of ponds, falls and wetlands to keep the kids interested. Getting back to nature, you’re sure to come across lots of lizards, ducks and even turtles. Keep an eye out for possums and other wildlife living amongst the ancient trees towering above.
Purpose built playground
There is a children’s playground purpose built to include sensory activities. The playground was designed to have something for children of all ages, from musical chimes to interactive speaker tubes, sandpits and swings, the playground encourages children to play together.
Grab some provisions for a picnic in the park at one of the many tables and seats on offer, or stop by the Gardens Café to satisfy your appetite.

South Bank, the original site of Expo 88, is 17 hectares of flourishing gardens and lawns, sparkling water holes, adventure activities, rainforest walks, cultural affairs, playgrounds and markets.
Pack a picnic, have a barbecue on one of the many free electric barbecues available or grab a bite from one of over 100 dining options available and enjoy the city paradise that is South Bank Parklands.
Where to swim?
Streets Beach is a must-see and offers families the chance to soak up the sun on sandy white beaches, while taking in the view of the Brisbane River and CBD skyline. If you’d prefer a dip without the sand, next door you’ll find the Boat Pool—a sparkling lagoon surrounded by sub-tropical flora and fauna. And you’re in safe hands as both lagoons are watched over by qualified lifeguards all year round.
Neighbouring the swimming holes, you’ll find Aquativity. This inter-active water-play park offers hours of endless fun for kids and kids-at-heart. Not only is it fun, but its educational as it features play elements referencing the native fish and mammal species, the water cycle, Brisbane’s river and catchments.
Wheel of Brisbane
Take the family and jump on the Wheel of Brisbane. Giving you a sweeping bird’s eye view of the city, the parklands, the winding river and beyond, the wheel is a great end to your family fun day.
